MDABC Support Groups

Resources / MDABC Support Groups

All IN PERSON Support Groups are now on HOLD until further notice.

Some groups have decided to continue to meet ‘virtually’. Please contact the facilitator of a group to register for a Zoom Group or to inquire if a particular group is meeting via Zoom.

A link to Zoom meetings protocol guide can be found here.

The following groups will continue meeting via Zoom:

What is an MDABC Peer Support Group?

An MDABC peer-led support group is a safe place to share your story, your struggles and accomplishments, and to listen to others as they share similar concerns. At a MDABC support group you can get a sense of belonging, informal education about your mental health challenges, and the support of others who have ‘been there‘. Support groups are facilitated by trained volunteers with lived experience of mental health concerns.
Please Note: Support groups are not intended to provide counselling or therapy.

Click here to read the MDABC Peer Support Group Agreements.

How can I find an MDABC Support Group?

MDABC has more than 25 Peer-led Support Groups in cities and towns across British Columbia. You will find the group contacts, meeting times, and locations on this page.

All of our Peer Support Groups are free of charge and require no registration; just drop in and you will be welcomed. * Only the PTSD groups require an intake prior to joining the group. Please contact the facilitator to discuss your suitability.

Want to Volunteer to be a Peer Support Group Facilitator?

We are so glad that you are interested in supporting your community. Thank you!

As our groups are peer led, our volunteers must have some lived experience with mood disorders.

For Volunteer Peer Support Group Facilitator job description click here.

Step 1: You are required to attend a couple of the peer support groups first in order to observe how they function. Please introduce yourself to the facilitators prior to the group starting and let them know that you are interested. We will then ask the facilitator for feedback on your potential suitability for a Volunteer Facilitator role.

Step 2: Fill out the Volunteer Application Form here.

Step 3: We will get in touch with you to schedule an appointment to discuss further.

Step 4: If you are approved to join as a Volunteer Facilitator, you will be registered for our next Facilitator training (a full day training). You will need to participate in this training before starting as a Volunteer.

We look forward to hearing from you.
